Legislature Proposes New State Ban

In 2016, Fairbanks Representative Scott Kawasaki and Anchorage Representative Chris Tuck introduced House Bill 364 to create an Alaska State Bank.

In 2017, historian Charles E. Duncan was asked by Representative Chris Tuck to rewrite this bill to comply with the requirements of an economic development bank using the best practices of other time-proven development banks.

The basic historical models that were chosen were the Bank of Japan in the 1960s–1970s and the United States Reconstruction Finance Corporation in the 1930s–1950s.

As of this writing the current status of this proposal is waiting for a response from Alaska’s Governor.
