Understanding the big picture identifies the recent destabilizations on Wall Street as an indication of the immediacy and gravity of our nation’s economic problems.
If our state cancels our “shovel ready” infrastructure projects Alaska will be left behind when the Federal Reserve reverses its current bond buying policy in response to the ongoing financial crisis. Many Alaskans will suffer the consequences of not having infrastructure projects ready to receive Federal Reserve funds.
Many people do not see the big picture and instead see large-scale infrastructure projects as a competitor to other important priorities—I can feel their pain. What is more important is avoiding the even greater pain of a wholesale collapse of our economy if our state is not ready to participate in a new Federal Reserve bonding system.
The beauty of this solution is that this new bonding will cause most of our infrastructure investment to go “off budget,” thus freeing up additional funds for other priorities.
This is the big picture missed by an immature understanding of our current economic calamity. Share the flag to fight for Alaska.
