I read with interest your letter to the editor in the Anchorage Times about channeling strategic defense initiative funds to the University of Alaska. I agree that the University could benefit from receiving Federal research funds.

As you are aware, the funding status of this initiative is not clear since Congress has not completed the budget and appropriations processes. Should sufficient funding be allocated for the extensive research envisioned by the strategic defense initiative plan, I will do what I can to ensure that our University is considered for research funding. I appreciated reading your thoughtful letter in the paper.
